Year after year, teams from across the great state of South Carolina compete for their chance to play in the SCHSL Football Championships. In 2021, we are excited to welcome teams and fans to the Charlie W. Johnson Stadium at Benedict College. From the stadium lights to the holiday lights, this is a wonderful time of year to visit Columbia SC.

Home Away from Home

It’s no secret that a good night’s rest is important before the big game. Find your home away from home at one of Experience Columbia SC’s preferred hotels. The Holiday Inn – Downtown Columbia and Columbia Marriott Hotel sit in the heart of our bustling Main Street District, less than 10 minutes from the Charlie W. Johnson Stadium.

Chow Down

Just across from Benedict College, you’ll find an unbeatable meal at Railroad BBQ. Whether you're dining with vegans or folks who are hog-wild, everyone will find something delicious to fill their plate. And don’t skimp on the banana pudding, trust us.

If you haven’t been back to the heart of SC since the last State Championship, you haven’t had the chance to try out Blue Pizza in Five Points. Whether your team is craving smoothies or pizza, they're sure to enjoy this chance to fuel up at a new local favorite.

For a quick bite, sure to satisfy everyone from the quarterback to the cheering fans, stop in at Groucho’s Deli for an Apollo Dipper. Be sure to ask for extra Formula 45 sauce.

Explore the City

If you’re staying on Main Street, Soda City Market on Saturday morning is a must. You’ll enjoy local vendors selling everything from biscuits piled high with fried chicken and pimento cheese to paella. Soda City is also the perfect spot to do a bit of holiday shopping.  Find something unexpected from the hundreds of local artisans and makers. For more traditional shopping, head to Columbiana Centre where you can browse department stores and dine at restaurants galore.

There’s more to this city than football and shopping though. Purchase the CoolPass for an easy and discounted way to explore three of Columbia’s family-friendly attractions: Riverbanks Zoo, EdVenture Children’s Museum and The South Carolina State Museum.

For a bit of holiday cheer, load your team into the car and head to the South Carolina State Fair for Carolina Lights, a drive thru lights show. Making the most of your visit to Columbia SC is sure to make this a winning weekend for all.
